Sonali Shah Biography

Sonali Shah is a British radio and television presenter who currently presents Sunday Breakfast on Magic FM as well as the BBC’s Escape to the Country TV show ITV’s Tonight and has its own segment on Boxed Lunches Steph’s of Channel 4. Her breakthrough came when she was the presenter of BBC Newsround’s children’s news program from July 2006 to November 2011. Other programs for which she is known. was a presenter covering the National Lottery Draw, Crimewatch and Watchdog.

For more than a decade, she trained as a dancer while studying Indian classical dance, Indian folk and street dance. Sonali attended Longfield Middle School and Middle School and later attended Whitmore High School in Harrow. She studied television journalism at the Center for Broadcasting and Journalism at Nottingham Trent University. She wanted to pursue a career in medicine and she started as a presenter on the local hospital radio station. After graduating from university in early 2002, she joined BBC World Service as a producer, and also presented on World Business Report and The World Today. She joined BBC Radio 5 Live as the first producer of Jeff Randall’s Weekend Business, which won a Sony Radio Award. She then started covering Weekend Business as well as Wake Up to Money and 5 Live Money. She was the first member of Newsround as the host of the afternoon relief show. She presented the Breakfast, Afternoon, and Weekend Newsletter in 2006 as a member of the new cast replacing Ellie Crisell and Jake Humphrey. At the same time, she presents the main program of 2008. She also reports for Sportsround and publishes an online diary of the 2010 Commonwealth Games for the Newsround website. She has done several Newsround specials, including two documentaries on Afghanistan in 2010, which also aired on the BBC News Channel. In 2011, she presented Match of the Day Kickabout on BBC Two and guest-starred on Sadie J and Blue Peter. On 9 November 2011, Shah announced that she would be leaving Newsround before moving to a new facility at MediaCityUK in Salford.

In 2009, Shah joined BBC News Channel Business News alongside Newsround. It can be seen occasionally emitting in the afternoon and evening. In 2010, Shah traveled to Delhi to cover the Commonwealth Games for BBC Sports on BBC One and BBC Two. She was one of the main reporters covering the events. She was one of three BBC presenters, along with Manish Bhasin and Rishi Persad, in the 2011 World Cricket Championship in the Indian subcontinent. Also in 2011, she covered the College Boat Race and Wimbledon. She regularly presents a BBC One special called British Olympic Dreams, which has been broadcast since February 2011, following potential British Olympic hopes in 2012. She also hosts program on BBC Three for the duration of the match and stationed at Lords for archery. In August 2011 Shah joined BBC World News. She presents the weekend daytime news and remains the host of the relief program. In December 2011, she replaced Rhod Sharp in Up All Night. She focuses on BBC News and BBC Sport. She was part of the BBC News team that covered Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee on BBC One. She was a reporter in the crowd at the Mall. In May 2014, Shah became a sports reporter for BBC Radio 4’s daily morning news programme.

On 2 March 2013, Sonali Shah and her Newsround co-host, Ore Oduba, appeared on BBC’s Let’s Dance for Comic Relief, dancing to “Hey Ya!” by Outkast. They were disqualified and did not receive.
